Series 1, Episode 13: Route 666

My plan to watch two episodes of Supernatural over the weekends has not worked out too great but in fairness I was actually out enjoying myself this weekend at Astonbury which was amazing! Good weather, good food, drink (obviously) and good friends made for a pretty damn fantastic Saturday and a pretty appalling Sunday morning but let's not dwell on the negatives.

But tonight I'm properly in the mood for some scares so I'm settling down to watch Supernatural. Some twat screwed me over yesterday and I know I'm safe to rant about it here as he will never read this....

Sorry about that. I just vented it all out then before I decided I was being ridiculous and I ended up deleting it. This blog is meant to be about Supernatural, not the ramblings of a crazy person! Plus it all came out as very much an "attention seeking" attempt which I absolutely hate. I just want to note down some events in my life so that if I ever come back to read these then I will have these notes as milestones as to what was going on at the time.

As another small aside before I start this, I've also just checked on how many views the blog is getting and it's rather depressing I'm afraid. Not many hits at all. Although I'm not sure I believe the reports because it's saying that some blog entries haven't been viewed at all and I know that's not true. Looking for a positive in all this, it does mean that I am free to say whatever I want without fear of upsetting anyone because no one is reading this! Haha! How liberating!

Let's start the episode...

It's a racist ghost truck! I think...Bit weird but not outside the realms of the other bizarre stuff in this show. A truck appears from thin air and runs a black man's car off the road. Other black people have also been killed recently in similar circumstances. The only thing I'm not sure about yet is if it is a racist ghost driving a ghost truck or if the truck itself is a ghost. The annoying thing is, due to my anger at the moment, I was kind of looking forward to seeing a few people getting savagely killed, but the fact that these seem to be racially motivated killings doesn't sit right with me so I can't even enjoy that! Bloody racists spoil things for everyone!

BREAK

Well this is a first for the blog. I got bored with the episode so gave up on it. It's now a day later and I'm going to complete it today. I'm in a better mood today so hopefully things should work out better.

Dean has met up with an old girlfriend, a girl that he cared enough about to spill all his secrets to. She dumped him at some point. That must have been what turned him gay.

They just had sex...There goes my good mood!

I'm drinking cider, good mood returns!

Some guy called Mayor has just been killed by the truck and yet Mayor was white. He did mention something earlier on about him being the complete opposite of a racist so it's possible that the ghost truck is also picking on people who are sympathetic towards black people. This show is fucking bonkers! Also I'm confused as to whether this guys name is Mayor or if he was Mayor of the town. They keep alternating between the two.

Right so it seems he was the Mayor but I'm too lazy to go back and make corrections so we'll have to stick with it. He bulldozed down an old house and then the killings started so I'm guessing that probably wasn't a good thing for him to do.

Ohhhh dear. The killer truck has turned up outside Dean's girlfriend's house. How awful it would be for her to be horribly squashed by it.

She is saved "fortunately" and Dean and Sam soon destroy the truck after Sam cleverly directs the truck to a site of an old church where it is swiftly consumed by the consecrated ground. I've got to say that Sam is becoming very much the brains of the whole operation here and I have to award this episode to him making it 2:0 to Sam. Maybe if Dean spent less time in bed with strange ladies then he might actually contribute something!

Overall this was a fairly decent episode. I didn't enjoy it all that much but I am fairly grumpy today. I did enjoy the fact that the series wasn't scared to address such issues as racism so that bodes well for the future.

I've now watched 13 episodes. I'm not a superstitious person but given the nature of the show, episode 13 seems like a milestone moment.

Series 1, Episode 12: Faith

Today has been rather productive! It's amazing how much more can be achieved on a Saturday when you haven't gotten blind drunk the night before. I'll be getting on to Supernatural shortly but for the sake of posterity I thought I should talk about my day for a little bit. If it's too boring then skip about four paragraphs and that's when I get on to the Supernatural stuff.

I was up at 9 and off into town. Unfortunately the day didn't start too well as I had an appointment with pain! By which I mean the terrible day I have to face roughly every 7 weeks when I get the hair that grows at the top of my back viciously removed by hot wax. It's fucking agony. The annoying thing is, it's not like anyone sees that part of me anyway as I'm not exactly the sort of person to walk round with no shirt on but I have to do it so as not to feel too gross.

After that I walked through the square where there was some kind of show on with many stalls. I was immediately interested to see there was one for the local astronomy society. I have a telescope but unfortunately, now living in a flat, it's not something I get to use all that often. Unfortunately I left town in a bit of a grump because my intense shyness had prevented me from approaching the stall and chatting to the people there and so I feel I let myself down.

Getting home, I had some lunch and then tidied the kitchen and cleaned my bedroom. I even helped a little spider out of the window. Since then I have been mainly playing some games and reading a new book (out loud so that I can do all the voices obviously!)

As I wait to hear from Mr Deeley about the plans for tonight's trip to the pub (I've been waiting some time to hear back from him...) I thought I should keep up this productive day and fit in another episode of Supernatural.

Well that's a disaster right from the start! Dean is fighting some kind of monster in a basement. He fires a taser at him but unfortunately he doesn't realise that both him and the creature are standing in a puddle of water and as such Dean has been electrocuted and is now slumped on the floor all wet and unconscious.....That isn't the disaster though. The disaster is that I'm not there to "look after him" whilst he's all wet and unconscious......Is that too dark? Maybe, but you can't deny it wouldn't cross your mind. I imagine this to be the conversation upon him awaking..naked.

Dean: Where are my clothes??

Me: Oh....well.....ermmm....they blew away in a storm.

Dean: Why does my ass hurt?

Me: It was the storm Dean! Ok! Stop asking so many questions!!

Anyway back to the episode and it seems that the electrocution has caused Dean to have a massive heart attack and Sam is told by the doctor that his brother only has months left to live. I sort of feel bad for making the rape jokes now!

This is a really interesting episode so far. Sam takes Dean to a faith healer called Roy, who manages to cure him but then they discover that another person has now died from the heart illness that Dean had. Effectively the faith healer (or the reaper creature working with him) is trading one life for another. It makes me really think what I would do in that situation. If a family member or close friend was sick and I was given the choice of letting them die or instead transferring that illness to a random stranger then would I do it? I'm really not sure.

Of course no episode of Supernatural would be complete without a pretty young woman for Dean to flirt with. I'm not jealous at all! In this episode he meets Layla who has been told she only has six months to live after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. She has been waiting for months for Roy to pick her from the audience but as yet she has had no luck. After discovering what is going on, Sam calls Dean and tells him to stop any further healing from taking place because innocent people will die. And the very next person chosen from the crowd is poor Layla. Awkward! He has to fake a fire to prevent Layla from being healed.

In a great twist it is revealed that it is Roy's wife who is controlling the reaper and poor Roy really believes he is healing these people himself. Earlier on in the episode Roy said how he had been dying from Cancer and after much praying he was cured. Clearly his wife was desperate enough to perform some evil dark magic to trap a Reaper and help save her husband. It's nice to have a villain in an episode where I can actually feel some sympathy for them. Of course since then she's gone absolutely mental and is now using the reaper to kill off those people who she considers to be immoral, including gay people so actually she is a total bitch! Also Dean had better watch his back!

The episode is finished now and I think that has been my most favourite one so far. I really enjoyed it.

Also I thought it might be fun, with the episodes going forward, to award a point to one of the brothers each episode on their performance. I've noticed that in the last two episodes that Dean would have been totally screwed if Sam had not come to the rescue. I can't be bothered to think back on all the previous episodes but I have to award this episode's point to Sam as he is the one to break the curse of the reaper just in time to save his brother. So the current standing is: Sam 1: Dean 0

Series 1, Episode 11: Scarecrow

This afternoon has mainly been spent constructing a custom made wooden box insert for one of my many board games in order to store the cards and pieces in a more pleasing and efficient manner. It was almost too exciting so I thought I should try and calm myself down now and chill out with the next episode of Supernatural...I think I'm a bit high from glue fumes so this could be interesting..

A car containing two people breaks down and so they decide to walk through a mysterious orchard to look for help. This is exactly how The Human Centipede starts so I'm a little concerned. I mean it was a pretty good film actually but there's a time and a place for such things and when you've got chicken nuggets in the oven then I'm not really in the mood to watch people crap in each others mouths.

It's okay. They just had their faces ripped off by a scarecrow. I'm not sure what's worse, having your face ripped off or stitched to a strangers arse?..That is a tough one actually.

Sam and Dean's dad calls them up and tells them to stop looking for him and instead sends them off to investigate the annual disappearance of couples near a town in Indiana. On route, Sam decides they should ignore their fathers request and instead meet up with him to help him track down their mother's killer. Dean is as loyal to his fathers wishes as ever and as such the guys seem to have hit a parting of the ways as Dean drives off and leaves Sam to make his own way to California where he believes their dad is.

Whilst walking down the road, Sam briefly meets a fellow traveller, a young woman. After a very short conversation a van pulls up offering her a lift, but the driver refuses Sam's request for a lift. Now if I was that woman I'd find that a little creepy. The driver clearly only wants to pick up young women, which is a little "rapey" if you ask me.

Well I've just learned a valuable lesson. Never cook food at the same time as watching Supernatural! Dean was just learning in really close to the scarecrow to examine it, when the timer on my phone went off and I nearly jumped out of my fucking skin!

After arriving at a bus station, Sam meets up with the young woman again who introduces herself as Meg. She now has a black eye which she explains was after a run in with the creepy driver. You see, she should have listened to me yelling at the TV screen!

I'm loving this episode. There's a proper conspiracy feel about it which is really appealing to me. That being said, I'm staggered by something I've just seen. A camera! I could hardly believe it so had to rewind it several times. I know sometimes reflections of cameras or boom microphones can be caught but this is full on in the shot! As Dean leaves the room you see the other camera getting into position to record him as he walks out the door. Brilliant! In case you don't believe me, then see for yourself in the link below:

The town is sacrificing people up to the scarecrow in order to ensure the overal safety of the town and to make sure they have a good harvest. I would question how desperate these people must be to create the perfect apple pie that they are willing to allow innocent people, including their own family members, to die!

Fortunately Sam returns just in time to save his brother, defeat the scarecrow and everyone lives happily ever after.

A surprising twist comes at the end of the episode when we see Meg yet again being given a lift by a dodgy looking guy. Has she not learned?? Well it would seem that Meg is not all she has cracked up to be, when she slits the guys throat, drains his blood into a goblet and uses it to somehow make a psychic telephone call. I guess it can be deeply frustrating when you can't get service on your mobile but this does seems a little extreme. I think we'll be seeing more of her in the episodes to come which I really like as she will serve as a good overall nemesis for Dean and Sam.

Overall this was a fantastic episode. I'd like to say it was in my top 10 of all episodes but as I've only watched 11 episodes so far then that wouldn't be saying much. I'll say it's in the top 3 then. And now I really want apple pie!
