Series 2, Episode 11: Playthings

And so begins a drunken trilogy of episodes. Not a trilogy in the sense that the episodes are in anyways connected, but a trilogy as in I watched them all in one night whilst playing a little drinking game.

Leanne came over to join me in the drinking and the watching and generally to give me a kick up the ass to get some more episodes watched before the end of the year. Before starting the episodes we decided on a few rules for the drinking game. I'm not sure I can remember them all but they were roughly along the lines of taking a drink anytime one of the following events happened:

1) Dean or Sam are tied up
2) Dean or Sam are knocked unconscious
3) Dean and Sam share a brotherly moment
4) Dean or Sam break into somewhere
5) Dean says "son of a bitch"
6) Dean or Sam use fake identification or otherwise impersonate someone
7) Dean and Sam are mistaken for a gay couple
8) The episode ends with a shot of the brothers driving away in their car

Overall it was a pretty successful game. I don't think either of us got too drunk. We decided that next time we would have to try it with shots.

So let's see what I can remember about the first episode that we watched.

This episode centred around a hotel that was due to be closed and knocked down. Unfortunately a spirit of a dead girl trapped in the hotel didn't want that to happen and so she was killing off anyone who threatened the building. I think she was possibly using some kind of voodoo stuff. I'm a little vague on that bit. But there was a creepy dolls house and whatever happened to the dolls in the house then went on to happen to the people in the hotel.

From the very beginning I got a "Shining" feel from this episode. It's set in a hotel and their are two creepy girls roaming it's corridors so it's not a stretch to make that link. I guessed straightaway that something was going to be odd about the girls and sure enough I was proved to be correct in my suspicions when one of the girls turned out to be a ghost.

Leanne pointed out at the end of the episode that the room that Dean and Sam were put in was room 237 which also happens to be the haunted room from The Shining so that was quite cool to see they were making a reference to the movie. There was also another scene with Dean having a drink at the hotel bar with the creepy looking bar man which also reminded me of the bar scene from The Shining.

One of the first drinks we had to take was caused by Dean and Sam being mistaken for a gay couple upon entering the hotel. When Dean questions Sam as to why he thinks this happens from time to time, Sam replies that Dean comes across as quite butch and people may think he's compensating for something. I nearly leapt off the sofa at this because that is literally what I have been saying from the start of the entire series!

A good episode overall and quite creepy in parts. Dolls are always creepy anyway. I mean who'd want to play with these monstrosities!?

Series 2, Episode 10: Hunted

It's Christmas! Or at least it was Christmas! It's now the day after Boxing Day and I'm in the post-Christmas blues period. I feel fed up tonight so I decided to crack open a few drinks and see how many episodes I can get through. I'm guessing one if my past form is anything to go by.

As a side note, I should say that something quite unusual happened recently. So the last episode I watched was called Croatoan and was about a town where people were suffering from a disease and then disappearing. Literally within a few days of watching this episode I was listening to a new Doctor Who audio play (yes I listen to Doctor Who audio plays, I'm not ashamed!) and the Doctor found himself in the middle of a totally deserted settlement with the word "Croatoan" carved into the walls! I'd never heard this word until I saw it in Supernatural and now it seems to be following me about! Spooky!

In the last episode Dean revealed to Sam that their father told him something about Sam before he died. I hope we find out in this episode what it is as it seems to have been dragging on for ages, but then that may just be because I have been watching the series very slowly.

A young man, Scott, is having a counselling session. He tells his therapist that he has developed the ability to electrocute creatures by touching them and that he killed the neighbour's cat. When the therapist asks him why he would do this Scott tells him because the yellow eyed man that visits him in his dreams told him to. What on earth does the yellow eyed demon have against cats??

I thought Scott was going to be the villain of this episode but he is stabbed and killed as he is getting into his car.

Meanwhile Dean reveals the big secret. Apparently their father told Dean that he needed to save Sam or he may eventually have to end up killing him...That's annoyingly vague and understandably Sam seems to feel the same as me as he flips out demanding to know what that means.

Woohoo! I don't normally get excited by production stuff but this episode (as indicated by the titles) is directed by Rachel Talalay. She was involved with production on the Nightmare On Elm Street movies, directing the 6th film and she has also directed four episodes of Doctor Who, those being the season finales for series 8 and series 9. In fact I have seen her in person when I bumped into a group of Cybermen in London one weekend (like you do!). She was there then! She's a great director. I don't normally notice such things but I'll be looking more closely at this episode now that I know this.

Sam just got blown up! He was exploring a deserted house when he tripped a trap and a grenade blew him to pieces! Fortunately this was all a vision of a young woman who obviously has developed the same gift as Sam for premonitions. All these people discovering super powers....it's all getting a bit too "Heroes" for my liking.

Sam goes to visit Ellen for help. (Is it Ellen or Helen? I really should look that up. In fact I've got a feeling I may even have commented on that before). She tells him that she forgave his dad a long time ago for what he did that caused the death of her husband. When Sam asks what happened she quickly changes the subject. Why won't anyone be straight with each other??

Ava (the girl with the vision) finds Sam and warns him. It's quite funny to see her explain her vision whilst assuming that Sam is going to think she is totally nuts. When he says he believes her and tells her about the yellow eyed demon having a plan for people like them then the tables are turned and she is left thinking that Sam is the crazy one. Dean tracks them down just in time to save them because Gordon is back (from episode 3, this blog is handy if you have a crap memory like me!) and he tries to shoot them both through the motel window.

And now Dean is tied to a chair again! That is definitely worthy of necking your drink in the Supernatural drinking game!

It must have been Gordon who stabbed Scott at the start of the episode! I'm so slow! Can't believe it's taken me this long to twig on to that.

Whilst waiting for Sam to fall into his trap, Gordon hits Dean with the age old Hitler question. If you met Hitler as a child, could you kill that child? Similarly Sam is destined to become part of the demon's army so needs to be killed now.

It's all getting very tense now as Sam is sneaking into the house where Dean is being held captive but also where the trip wire with the grenade is. Surely he can't hit the trap if he knows to expect it. The only problem I can see is that Gordon has actually set two trip wires up so even if Sam misses one then he may hit the next!

Sam manages to escape the traps. I'm not really sure how as they both go off but I'm fairly sure he threw his shoes into the room to set them off. After tipping the police off they come and arrest Gordon. He was a right little shit so I'm glad he's finally been taken care of.

Bit of a strange ending when Dean and Sam go to visit Ava and they find her boyfriend dead with his throat slit. The demon has been there as indicated by sulphur residue. Sam finds Ava engagement ring on the bedroom floor. I'm not sure what we are supposed to assume from this. Has Ava killed her boyfriend or been kidnapped by the demon and the demon killed her boyfriend? Will this be something that is picked up on in the next episode? I hope so because I quite liked Ava as a character and would be good to see her back and get some resolution to this plot. I think we are meant to think she has done it. That way it further emphasises threat that one day Sam will turn evil too!

Series 2, Episode 9: Croatoan

It's been quite a while since I did one of these. I'm afraid I've been too busy with I'm A Celebrity and trying to watch all six Star Wars movies before episode 7 comes out next weekend! Add to that the fact that I've been feeling lazy. I'm now faced with a choice of watching an episode of Supernatural or putting the Christmas tree up. Supernatural it is!

Sam has another one of his premonitions of death. This time he sees Dean shooting a guy tied to a chair. I was a little confused as the guy in the chair looked exactly like a guy who was in the last series so I assumed it was the same character but now it seems it's not the same actor at all! I'm going to have to check after of they are related somehow because they look and sound so alike!

Over the last few episodes Sam has been worried that Dean is going a little mental through grief at the loss of their father. He has shown concerns that Dean is becoming too aggressive and enjoying killing a little too much. With that in mind I'm wondering why Sam has even mentioned this recent vision to his brother. It looks like Dean is killing an innocent man so why tell Dean exactly where it all happens so that they can visit that town in the first place?? Am I making any sense?

Heading to the home of the boy in the vision they find that he is not in. Whilst there they discover something else weird is going on. The mother of the family is tied up whilst the father and the boy's brother (who is quite cute by the way) are performing some kind of ritual over her by dripping blood over a wound in her arm. It's all pretty gross. Fortunately Sam and Dean burst in in time to stop whatever the hell they were trying to do. When the father comes at them, Dean shoots him dead but the boy (his name is Jake) manages to escape by jumping through a window.

After examining the father's body at a local doctors surgery it seems that he was suffering from some kind of disease. This has now been passed on to the mother when they were dripping the blood on her and she goes crazy and attacks the doctor. Luckily Sam is on hand to whack her round the head with a fire extinguisher.

Meanwhile, due to all the phones in the town being out, Dean is driving to the next town looking for help. Unfortunately the roads are blocked off by an armed gang and he narrowly escapes from them. I hope his car isn't damaged!

Reaching the relative safety of the doctors office and with another survivor in tow, Dean finds out about the mothers infection. She is locked up in a store room but Dean knows she has to be killed before she gets too powerful. Releasing her from the room she begins to beg and plead, claiming that she isn't one of the infected but Dean shoots her anyway. It seems really shocking that he did that! I mean I was fairly sure she was infected but it still ended up with him seemingly shooting a defenceless woman whilst she cried and pleaded for her life. Pretty grim stuff!

The guy from the vision turns up at the doctors and is tied up. We reach the point where Dean is about to shoot him and then he changes his mind. I can't remember if this is something new for Sam's visions. Is this the first one that hasn't come true? I genuinely can't recall whether it is or not.

A very weird ending. I'm not sure I can even describe what went on because I don't really understand it all but in summary everyone in the town disappeared. Sam was infected and then he wasn't and I'm not sure why. It seems it was all some kind of test set up by the yellow eyed demon to see if Sam was immune. Again I'm not sure why...

Not sure what I made of this episode. It just seemed very odd with no proper resolution to the plot.
There were some nice moments between the brothers though like when Sam thought he was infected and Dean insisted on staying behind with him. Dean admitted that he was tired of the life they were leading which is unfortunate considering they've got at least 8 more seasons of this to go!

Also Dean has finally admitted that their father told him something about Sam before he died. But we still don't know what!! Could he have a different father maybe?? That might explain more about why John and Sam had such a troubled relationship.

Series 2, Episode 8: Crossroad Blues

Last night I got incredibly drunk and as such I've been nursing a hangover for most of the day.

It's not been all bad though. My friend Sarah came over for some board games and later on a trip to the pub for food. Overall it was a very good day. She even brought her little dog with her and it made me think how cool it would be to have a little dog of my own. Someone who can keep me company and watch telly with. I'm not really sure what I'm talking about because I'm very tired and have started drinking again. Anyway time for another episode of Supernatural. Today I'm finishing off the second disc! Exciting!

A very unusual start as we see a flashback to 1938 and a man being tormented by the sound of barking dogs. Is the Universe trying to tell me that getting my own dog is a bad idea? Also I'm hoping that this whole episode will be set in 1938 and we'll be watching Dean and Sam's ancestors (played by the same actors) trying to solve the case. I've already made up that story in my head and so I will be disappointed if that does not come to pass!

I can't remember if I've mentioned this in a previous blog entry but I find it curious that Sam is still wearing a cast on his arm. I'm trying to remember if something happened in a previous episode to cause that because he has been wearing it for several episodes now. Either that or something happened to Jared in real life. But if that was the case then you would think they would come up for an explanation for it in the show. I'm rambling again aren't I?

Okay I'm five minutes in to the episode and I think I've worked it all out already. Another man (in the present day now) has killed himself after being chased by a "black dog". After speaking to someone who knew him Sam and Dean discover that the man had been a failure most of his life until suddenly becoming a genius. My guess is that he made some kind of deal to improve his life and then the black dog comes to collect on that deal. That would also fit in with the case from 1938 as the man that was killed then was shown to be very gifted with the guitar so maybe he had also made a similar deal.

Case closed! I'm getting good at this!

After visiting a local animal protection agency Dean reports back about his success at his flirting with the receptionist. Included in all the paperwork that she gives him is a post stick note with her MySpace address on it. Unbelievable! Who uses MySpace anymore?? I keep forgetting how old some of these early episodes are now.

I'm a little confused as to how Dean got his car back. I'm sure in the last episode it was locked up in the police station somewhere and they were on the run so did they break in to retrieve it? He must really love his car to take a risk like that!

Dean and Sam find out that the last person to make a deal with this particular demon was a guy called Evan. We see Evan working in his office. His wife is going away on a trip and Evan clearly knows he may be dead by the time she comes back. As she turns round to tell him she loves him he sees her face transform in the most freakishly way possible. He is starting to see things like the others did. When her face changed like that I found it to be genuinely terrifying. That's the first time this series has done that to me. Well done on that whoever made this episode!

Dean summons the demon and traps her. He forces her to let Evan go whilst she tries to tempt him into giving up his own life in order to bring his father back. Dean doesn't enter in to the deal and before the demon disappears (looking like the smoke monster from Lost) she reveals that their father is in hell. That's not a pleasant thought! Since the girl from The Exorcist was in the last episode it reminds me of that moment when she tells one of the priests "your mother sucks cocks in hell!" or in the PG version of The Exorcist "Your mother knits socks in Hull!"

At the end of the episode there was a trailer for the upcoming episodes. The trailer ends with Dean telling Sam about how their Dad told him something before he died. He doesn't reveal what it was but he does say that it something about Sam. So Sam is the gay one then?

What a twist!

Series 2, Episode 7: The Usual Suspects

I'm in a bad mood and I have a headache. As such I'm not sure I should be watching an episode of Supernatural right now as I may not look on it as favourably as it deserves. Just letting this be known in case this blog entry is full of grumbles.

A policeman is interrogating someone over a series of crimes including murder, breaking and entering, and grave desecration. We haven't been shown the person to whom the cop is addressing but given the list of crimes, especially the last one, I'm guessing that this might be Dean or Sam. I want to say it's Dean just because an episode in the last season started in a similar way with Dean so therefore I'm going against my judgement and going to guess at Sam. I'm going to look pretty dumb if it turns out to be neither of them.

It was Dean. Apparently he's tortured a girl too! I'm assuming this must have been some kind of demon. He doesn't seem to look too worried anyway.

Oh my God! Just as I was formulating the idea that maybe Dean was exorcising a demon from a young girl and that was what the police were deeming as "torture" then who should walk into the room but Linda Blair!! The girl from The Exorcist. That's exciting. She's a police woman who seems to have been tracking down the brothers.

Time for a flashback!

Dean and Sam are investigating the muder of one of their dads old friends. He had his throat slit and the security cameras cut off at the time of the murder meaning it was either a spirit or a technical fault. I love how Dean and Sam automatically assume that an invisible spirit is the most likely explanation!

Breaking into the guys office they find out that before he was murdered he must have gone all out "Shining" mental, constantly typing out a woman's name. (Dana Shulps) All Work And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy..

Dean has literally just made that exact joke. I swear I'm becoming more in tune with his character. Maybe I'll have to get a leather jacket like his. We are very similar characters in a way, except I don't feel the need to flirt with every woman that passes my way to cover up my homosexuality.

After being discovered at the murder scene of the guys daughter Dean is arrested leading to his predicament as shown at the start of the episode. Fortunately it's not long before Linda sees the ghost and, now a believer, she heads out to find Sam who can help save her life. I just hope she doesn't start vomiting pea soup everywhere like she did when she was a little girl!

There's something suspicious about Linda's partner. He's seems overly keen on pinning the blame on Dean. After discovering that the ghost is of a woman who dealt drugs and it is revealed that Linda and her partner used to work in that area my suspicion is that her partner (think his name is Pete) was somehow involved with her death.

The name DANA SHULPS is actually an anagram. Ashland street is where the woman was last seen. If you take ASHLAND out of DANA SHULPS you are left with PSU. I wonder if those are Pete's initials!!

Okay I think I was wrong about the letters but when Linda and Sam find the girls body they discover that she is wearing the same necklace that Linda is wearing. A necklace that Pete gave to her! I knew there was something dodgy about him!

After confronting Pete (and killing him!) Linda lets Sam and Dean go free. Then came the bit that blew my mind! As they walked off together Dean asked Sam if she had looked familiar to him. Clearly referencing the fact that she was in the Exorcist. Then he says he's feeling hungry and is craving pea soup for some reason! This is getting weird now. I must be channeling my inner Dean to be constantly coming up with these references before he does. I really liked that ending. It was breaking the fourth wall a little but I don't care because it was funny.

Overall this was a great episode. Possibly this has been the best episode so far this season. And I'm feeling a little happier! The cider may have helped too.

Series 2, Episode 6: No Exit

If I'm being completely honest, my interest in the series is starting to wane a little. It's been difficult finding the motivation to watch another episode. But I'm determined to see this series through and I'm sure I'll find myself enjoying it again soon. To be fair I think it's having to blog each episode that is putting me off a bit. Good grief I'm feeling negative tonight!

In an apartment a girl is on the phone complaining about the wiring. All her lights are flickering. Then black slime starts to ooze out of the sockets. It kind of reminds of the pink slime oozing into the bathtub in Ghostbusters 2, although admittedly this is much more sinister.

Well blow me! (Not literally) Sam and Dean have just identified the black slime as ectoplasm (the same substance from Ghostbusters!) I'm getting good at this! In fact, Dean even goes on to make a Ghostbusters joke when he decides that the Marshmallow Man must be behind the disappearances taking place in the apartment block.

It was Jo who put the brothers on to the case and now she's seems to want to get in on the action too when she pretends to be a potential buyer for one of the apartments. I think Jo's presence will come in helpful and it was mentioned that all the girls who went missing were blonde and Jo just happens to be a girl and blonde. Useful!

This is definitely not the episode you should be watching when you live alone in a flat!

I'm really enjoying this episode. So much so that I really don't want to keep stopping to blog.
I'm enjoying Jo as part of the investigation team. I think it actually works much better in the rare occasions when there are three of them and a female character balances things out nicely. It all got a but too testosterone filled when it was the bothers and their dad too.

Looks like I spoke too soon, Jo wondered off and got snatched by the thing living in the walls. Bugger!

A week has passed now since I started this blog entry. I really am falling behind with this. I did enjoy the episode though so that's a positive. It ended on a bit of a cliffhanger where I was terrified that Jo was going to be told that John Winchester was her dad! Fortunately that didn't happen but she did find out that her own father's death was due to John's negligence. As such she doesn't really want to keep on hunting with Dean and Sam which is a shame because I really liked her.

I also liked who they trapped the killer by encircling him in salt and then sealing up the entrance to the abandoned sewers with concrete. The "no exit" title suddenly makes a whole lot of sense!

There didn't seem to be a lot of Sam in this one. He was absent for large portions of the episode whilst things were left up to Jo and Dean. I wonder if Jared was on holiday for part of this episode. Or maybe the production of this episode was double banked with another so Jared was off filming a later episode which presumably will have not much Dean action in it. These things interest me way more than they should.

Series 2, Episode 5: Simon Said

Well I've got to say that I feel jolly well fed up today! Can't seem to shake the Sunday blues. After pacing around the flat for 10 minutes, trying to decide what to do to cheer myself up, I thought an episode of Supernatural might do the trick. Well it was either that or masturbation. And who would want to read a blog about masturbation??! Well I imagine there are sickos out there who might but as usual I'm digressing.

A man is calmly walking along a street when he gets a call on his mobile. As he listens to the caller his expression changes, as if he is going into a trance. He then strolls into the nearest gun store, buys a gun and blows away the shop owner before putting a bullet through his own brain. I suspect Derren Brown to behind this. He's probably making a new programme to fight against the current gun laws in America. Plus I've seen him do something like this before. He once hypnotised a man to assassinate Stephen Fry! I'm not even kidding!

Fortunately the scene I have just witnessed is just one of Sam's premonitions and so they may have the chance to stop Derren from making the call.

While Sam and Dean visit Ash again for help in tracking down the location of the case, Dean chats to Jo after she puts a song that is not to his taste on the juke box. Driving away from the bar Dean is singing the song to himself after declaring "he can't get it out of his head"...I see what they are possibly doing there. Things being implanted in people's minds etc. The episode is very nicely themed.

Also Dean doesn't have a bad singing voice. Typically Sam interrupts the fun as he insists on talking about the case. I may have lost track of the plot a little here. Sam believes it is something to do with the demon due to him having the premonition. Does he only have premonitions when it comes to cases linked with the demon? I don't recall that being established. I'm somewhat confused!

I may have jumped the gun there as Sam has now explained that the demon has visited every person that he had a premonition about. Don't remember that but I'll go along with it.

This....is.....hilarious. They've tracked down the guy (not Derron Brown but someone called Andy, disappointing) and Dean follows him in his car. Andy gets out of his van to admire Dean's car and then asks if he can have it at which point Dean gladly gets out of the car and let's Andy drive away in it! What a great power to have! Dean is going to be so pissed off when he comes back to his senses! His lovely car! I'm gutted for him!

Sam prevents the shooting but is unable this stop the shooter from walking out in front of a bus. Well at least he saved one person.

They confront Andy and there is more amusing stuff when Dean completely spills the truth to him because he has to do exactly what he's told. I'm really enjoying this episode, it's funny.

Now it appears that despite his abilities it may not be Andy committing the murders at all. Sam has another premonition where he sees a lady at a petrol station receive a phone call and then pour petrol over herself and setting herself on fire. They do tell you not to use your mobile phones whilst at a petrol station so maybe she should have paid attention to the rules! Not quite sure she deserves being burned alive though.

The coincidence of having two people with the same mental powers is explained when it is revealed that Andy has a secret twin brother! He's the one killing these people having being manipulated into doing so by the demon! It is mentioned again that the demon has a special plan for all these kids with weird mental powers like Andy and Sam. I'm getting quite intrigued to learn what this plan is.

Overall it was a good episode. It seems things are building up towards another showdown with the demon. I'm wondering how much longer it will be before this storyline is resolved. I'm guessing it'll be sorted by the end of this season with a new story taking over for season 3, most likely Dean coming to terms with his homosexuality.

Series 2, Episode 4: Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things

Before I begin the blog entry for this episode, as a little side note I have to say that the Doctor Who announcement as mentioned in the previous entry was a monumental let down! They announced that they were doing a spin off series based at the school where Clara works (but without Clara). If this had just been announced with no build up then it would have been moderately exciting but as they teased the reveal over the space of several hours then it was hugely hyped up. I wanted more episodes to be discovered!!

Anyway on to more cheerful things with episode 4 of Supernatural.

We are introduced to a woman called Angela who has had a big falling out with her boyfriend. She storms off in a car and ends up crashing and presumably dies. There was an awful lot of blood and she wasn't moving so I'm guessing she is pushing up daisies.

Meanwhile Sam has suggested that they take a trip to visit their mother's grave. It's not exactly my idea of a fun weekend but whatever floats your boat.

Whilst visiting the grave, Dean notices the burial place of Angela and see that everything directly around her (the grass, flowers etc) has died. Dean wants to investigate but Sam is sceptical because of the way they have just "stumbled on to a hunt". But isn't that how they start all their investigations?

Dean starts to investigate alone and discovers that Angela's boyfriend has also been killed. Well apparently it was ruled as suicide when he slit his own throat. Really? Why would anyone kill themselves that way?? We know better though because we saw someone do it to him. I'm just confused why they would assume it was suicide in the first place!

Dean heads back to the motel to tell Sam what he has uncovered and catches Sam watching porn on the room's television. Shocking! I thought better of Sam. Surely if any of them was going to be watching porn then it would be Dean! I'm genuinely disturbed by this. Sam seems to be slightly different in character this episode.

Angela has been brought back to life by her friend Neil who it seems harboured an unrequited love for her whilst she was alive. She's all over him like a rash now which, from someone who has experienced unrequited loved myself, is both gratifying and a little disturbing. I mean she's a zombie for goodness sake! Yuk! She'd be all cold and smelly.

After killing her ex boyfriend for cheating on her I'm guessing her next target will be the girl he cheated with. The identity of this girl has not been revealed yet but as we have only seen one other female in the episode then I think it's a safe bet to assume that Angela discovered her boyfriend cheating with her house mate (whose name I don't recall, let's just call her "Ms Slutty").

I was right. Angela sneaks away from Neil to kill Ms Slutty. Fortunately Sam and Dean show up in time to fill Angela full of silver bullets. Unfortunately it turns out that silver bullets don't kill zombies. I could have told them that! Do they not watch The Walking Dead!? To be fair, I don't watch The Walking Dead either so for all I know it might be the case that silver bullets do kill zombies, I just thought that that was always a wearwolf thing. And golden bullets can kill Cybermen, just so you know.

Instead they lure Angela back to her grave where they impale her through the chest and bury her again. You have to feel a bit sorry for her. By all accounts she was a lovely kind girl when she was alive. It was only when she was cheated on and killed that she went a little psycho and everyone can have an off day like that!

Just when I thought we were going to get the same ending of the car driving off into the distance, Dean pulls over and him and Sam have a little chat about their father. It all gets quite emotional when Dean reveals that the reason he has been acting all crazy recently is due to guilt at his father's death. He has assumed (correctly) that the reason their father died was because he made a deal with the demon to save Dean from his car crash injures.

I still want to know what he whispered in Dean's ear before he died! I'd be tempted to believe he was telling Dean that he wasn't really going to die and it was all some elaborate trick for the demon but Dean seem genuinely upset so their father must definitely be dead. Besides they burnt the body so I can't see any going back from that!

You can see why this case would have affected Dean so badly. Neil brought Angela back to life because he couldn't accept her death, which is exactly what Dean is struggling with in the case of his father.

Series 2, Episode 3: Bloodlust

There really has been an appallingly long amount of time that has passed between me watching episodes so let's put that right.

Also I need to take my mind off the impending "massive Doctor Who" news that is currently being teased. I've worked myself up into such a frenzy that nothing but the return of all 97 missing episodes will sate me! Supernatural fans don't know the pain of having missing stories!

The start of this episode feels very much like the start of a Friday The 13th movie. In fact I think Jared Padalecki was in one of those movies. The more recent and crap ones. I'm not sure if it's due to my heightened state of awareness right now but I jumped a mile when some girl running through the woods had her head cut off. In fact I think I jumped more than she did!

Less than 2 minutes in and there's already been a beheading! This is going to be a good one!

It turns out that the girl that was killed was actually a vampire so screw her then! Sam and Dean meet a fellow demon hunter. He knows all about them and commiserates them on the passing of their father. He seems like a decent chap! So therefore he'll either end up betraying them or dead...or both!

The guy (I don't think he has given his name yet!) insists that he be allowed to hunt the vampires on his own. Fortunately for him Sam and Dean do not respect his wishes and sneak along anyway, arriving just in time to save his life. Dean viciously attacks the vampire and uses a chainsaw to cut off its head. It seemed a little over the top but it had to be done I guess. Although Sam is shooting his brother a very accusatory expression so I'm guessing Sam is going to be all judgmental. I'm not sure what his problem is. Dean is just letting out some of his anger at his fathers death and surely that is better used against demons than against another human!

The guys name is Gordon. I just found out when Sam calls Ellen (from the last episode) for advice. She says she knows him and he is a very good hunter but they need to stay away from him because he's dangerous. Unfortunately it seems it might be too late for Dean as he has stayed out drinking with Gordon as they reminisce over the people they have lost.

Leanne, stop messaging me and let me get on with the episode!! :-) That's a joke that only one person will get but that's fine because she's most likely the only person reading this anyway! Haha!

Well this is a turn up for the books! One of the brothers is knocked unconscious and tied up...and it's not Dean! It's Sam! He is gagged by having a hankerchief tied though his mouth. I've never understood that. How does that stop you shouting??

It seems that this particular group of vampires have decided that killing humans is immoral and therefore they are going to live off the blood of animals. That would be considered a good thing by most people, although it feels too uncomfortably close to the the shite that is Twilight for my liking! At least I haven't seen a moody teenage girl in this episode yet!

It's actually quite interesting to see things from the vampires point of view. Some of their group has been killed (one of them by Dean) and so it suddenly becomes easy to sympathise with them.
Gordon mentioned earlier that he likes his job of hunting because everything is black and white between good and evil and now we have been immediately placed in a situation where there are shades of grey.

Sam manages to persuade Dean just in time to save the vampires. Gordon can't be convinced however resulting in punch up between him and Dean. Gordon is left tied to a chair at the end of the episode looking extremely pissed off. It would be interesting to see him return sometime in the future, seeking revenge.

Overall I really enjoyed this episode. As mentioned it was good to see it from another perspective for a change. Also the last scene of the episode was of Dean and Sam driving off with the camera sweeping upwards which, in my drinking game, means you have to instantly finish your drink.

There was some good developement for Dean as he has now come to realise that maybe not all the creatures they have killed actually deserved to die. I'm not sure if this is something that'll be carried forward into future episodes or was just a one off theme for this episode.

Series 2, Episode 2: Everybody Loves A Clown

Browsing the internet earlier today (definitely wasn't looking at porn!) I saw a headline for an article which included the trailer for season 11 of Supernatural. Really?? There's now 11 seasons of this! At this rate it's going to take me forever to finish!

Also today, my car went in for its MOT. My luck with this car has not been great, but I was confident that things were turning around as I had had no problems with it for months. Well this confidence was misplaced as I needed two new tyres (costing £140) and repairs to the exhaust (costing another £440!). I could have cried! Looking at this from a positive point of view, it means I will now no longer be able to afford to do pretty much anything which gives me plenty of time to watch some Supernatural!

This one looks like it is going to be about scary clowns. I approve. Clowns are scary. It's something to do with the painted on smile. It's meant to be happy but underneath the clown is just a stranger and could have any kind of intent.

This is the freakiest opening to an episode so far! A clown has followed a little girl home from a fair. She wakes up to hear a jingling. She looks out of the window and the clown is in the garden staring up at her. Instead of completely losing her shit (as I would do!) she excitedly sneaks downstairs to meet the clown. What a strange girl!

Sam and Dean are burning their fathers body outside. Do hospitals really just let you do that sort of thing? Also it seems in poor taste to burn his body considering what happened to their mother. And standing that close to the burning body, wouldn't they be able to smell it? I'm completely ruining this emotional moment by thinking all this nonsense. Meanwhile Dean is doing his best pouty face. I like it.
Am I actually perving over a man as he burns his father's body? Yes...yes I think I am.

The brothers meet up with one of their dad's friends, Ellen and her daughter Jo. Dean wastes no time in coming on to Jo. He's definitely covering up for something. It's getting tiresome now. Ellen and Jo have a friend called Ash who says he can review John's notes and track down the demon but he needs 51 hours to work his way through it all. That's a very specific time frame.

Whilst waiting for Ash, Dean and Sam set off to uncover the mystery of the clown. It seems the clown killed the little girls parents but left her unharmed. Unless the clown possessed her and she killed her own parents! That's my drunken theory!

As I get drunker I'm noticing Sam's hair more. I wonder if it naturally curls like that at the bottom or if he has to style it that way. I could never have a hairstyle where it falls down the forehead like that. It'd be far too irritating.

Sam and Dean meet the manager of the circus so that they can join up and explore. Once enrolled in a job they start investigating. Although I'm not sure why they needed to get a job at the circus in order to investigate it. They only seem to be looking around those areas open to the public so why have the interview? I'm wondering if the scene was contrived just so that we can find out that the circus manager looks just like his dad from a picture they see on the wall. They drew attention to it so it has to be significant.

It wasn't significant.

Okay I've just made a major error when it comes to this blog. It's now several days since I finished the episode and I forgot to finish the blog entry and now I can't really remember what happened. It was all fairly disappointing I think. The clown story line which I think could have been really scary was sidelined by the story line of Sam trying to make Dean come to terms with the loss of their father. Don't get me wrong, that part of it was really good, but I wanted more scary clown shenanigans!

Series 2, Episode 1: In My Time Of Dying

I'm off work this week and so far I've been enjoying myself greatly. Matt and Ben came over yesterday for a games day which was fun and tonight I'm off to the pub with Sally and Andy for a quiz night. For my birthday I'm finally off to the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff with Matt on Friday. (Please don't make me late for the train Matt! Our friendship can survive a lot of things but I think that might be the deal breaker!) Of course, having a week off I have to fit in some Supernatural, especially as I'm now starting the second season! Woo!

I had a Supernatural related dream last night that reminded me to watch an episode. I'll spare you the detail but suffice to say it was a very "interesting" dream, if you know what I mean. What has this series done to me?!

Of course the only person who seems to have survived the car crash (well he's the only one concious right now) is Sam. To be fair, John was on the side that the truck hit and Dean was already pretty beat up.

Dean is a ghost now! He has become separated from his body and is wandering around the hospital trying to get people to see or hear him. I'm hoping Sam will be able to hear him at some point. Sam seems to have certain psychic abilities so it would seem logical that he would be able to pick up on his brothers precence somehow.

I'm now thinking how funny it would be if Dean was actually dead and was a ghost for the rest of the series that only Sam could see or hear. Sort of like Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased). That was a great show.

The crash has had dire consequences for one of my favourite things in the show. Dean's car! I'm not a car person really but I've always quite liked his and it's been totalled. They have to get it back somehow surely! It's part of the essence of the show! Are they going to be trundling along in a little VW camper van from now on?? Actually that would be quite funny.

Sam buys a ouija board (no idea if I've spelt that right!) in order to speak to Dean after he senses him around the hospital. Meanwhile Dean has problems of his own dealing with a reaper that is picking people off. I'm not sure at the moment if this is something they can kill or if it is just taking people who have naturally reached the end of their lives.

It's all going on in this episode! John has snuck down the the hospital basement in order to summon the yellow eyed demon. He tells the demon that he wants to make a deal with him. Sam has been pissed off with his father for most of the episode as he thinks his dad cares more about hunting the demon than he does about Dean surviving. I'm guessing that the deal he wants to make might somehow be related to saving Dean's life which means their dad isn't such an arse after all!

Well I feel a bit bad for calling him an arse now because he's dead! Dean wakes up but it seems John has been taken by the demon as payment for saving him. I'm not really sure how I feel about this. I've suspected for a while that their father may die at some point because I have never seen him in any of the future episodes that I've caught glimpses off, but to be honest I didn't expect him to die so soon.

Before he died, John whispered something in Dean's ear which seemed to disturb him. I'm thinking it was something along the lines of "I found those gay porn magazines that you hid in your bedroom. I know everything!"

Look at that face! He definitely knows he's been rumbled!

I'm a little bit glad John's gone. That sounds awful but he irritated me a bit and I was getting fed up of the constant search for their father. Hopefully this means that Dean and Sam can stand on their own two feet now. Plus I imagine their Dad's death will have heavy repercussions for the episodes to come. Overall I thought this was a promising start to the next season.

Series 1, Episode 22: Devil's Trap

I've just come back from my weekend in London. It was a great weekend the only drawback being that it was bloody boiling hot and I was a sweaty mess for a good deal of it.

As such we chose some indoor activities and went to see a play (A Curious Incident) which I loved and later went out for drinks at a "bring your own cheese" night. Sounds random I know but it was fun. How anyone could not like cheese is a mystery to me.

This morning Leanne joined me, as I nursed my slight hangover to watch the finale of the first season of Supernatural. I'm being spoilt really. I've have friend to share the last two episodes with!

The "trap" of the title refers to the symbol shown in the picture above which allows Dean and Sam to capture Meg. She gets tied down to a chair whilst they try to exorcise the demon out of her. To be honest I just thought it made a nice change to see someone besides Dean tied up!

This episode revealed that the demons are possessing people. Therefore Meg is a real person. By exorcising the demon then they will effectively kill her due to the injuries sustained in her fall. I quite liked this idea because it brought up something of a moral dilemma for the brothers and also demonstrated the lengths that Dean will go to in order to protect his family.

There was a lot of "body hopping" being done by the demons in this episode. So much so that it made me question why they didn't just possess Sam and Dean. Surely that would have been their problems solved. I assume that there must be some kind of protection over the brothers which is preventing the demons from doing so.

The brothers rescue their father but only after using another bullet in the magic gun. That's only two bullets left for those of you keeping count.

A fantastic twist came about near the end of the episode when Dean and Sam discover that the demon that killed their mother is now possessing their father. I guessed this was the case a few moments before it was revealed due to the fact that John wasn't being as big of a dick as usual to his sons. The demon badly wounds Dean and then leaves Sam with an agonising decision. He can shoot his father and kill both him and the demon or he can let the demon escape and let his father survive. I guessed it would probably be the latter but the great thing about watching a series that I know nothing about is that I couldn't rule out the idea that Sam was going to kill his dad! Therefore this made for a pretty nail biting few moments. In the end the demon escapes after Sam shoots a bullet into his dad's leg. Only one bullet left!!

As the episode concludes, completely out of the blue, a large lorry smashes into the side of Dean's car whilst him, Sam and John are inside it. The lorry is being driven by one of John's old friends who is now also possessed (these things really do get around!). And that's where the episode ends! They all look pretty beat up. And Dean and John were already in a fairly bad way! It was a shocking conclusion because it didn't fall in naturally with anything that came before it. I liked it though.

So that's the end of season one. It's taken me a good while to finish it but I really enjoyed it. There were a few episodes that I struggled with but on the whole I liked it. I hope the story of the demon is resolved fairly quickly in season two as I think we need a new plot to drive the show forward now. It's definitely got something to do with Sam. The demon pretty much said as much. I think it's because he has these psychic powers and so it is picking on him for some reason.

Can't believe I finally finished the season. Only nine more to go!

Series 1, Episode 21: Salvation

I have company for this episode. Matt Deeley is here and I've blagged him into watching an episode with me! I filled him in on everything that has happened so far and pressed play on the episode only to find a perfect summarisation of the series so far was played before the episode started so that was a waste of my time!

Meg is back and she is on the search for John. She finds a priest (who looks a little like Wes Craven) and when he refuses to tell her where John is, she slits his throat. Seems needlessly aggressive.

John discovers that the demon they are hunting for attacks families who have a child who is turning 6 months old, as Sam did on the night his mother was killed. They head to the town where they know the demon is hiding and plan to track down all children who are turning 6 months old, presumably so they can locate the demon's next victim. Matt rightly identified the problem of what if more than one child was turning 6 months old on the same day. I suggested that they would use the scientific and infallible method known commonly as "ippy dippy" to select the family that they would stake out.

Sam has one of his psychic moments which helps them track down the family in peril. Unfortunately Meg knows they have the super magic gun and phones John up to demand he hand it over otherwise more of his friends will die. They hit on the obvious plan of handing over a similar gun in the hope that that will fool her for a while. Dean goes out and buys such a gun at which point Matt asked the question that has been puzzling me for a good amount of the series. Just where the hell do they get their money from? Is fighting supernatural creatures on kickstarter now??

Sam got so frustratingly close to defeating the demon but it evaporated before he could get a shot at it. Meanwhile John has been captured by Meg. Overall I'd say they'd had better days.

A slightly underwhelming episode but it did leave me on a fairly good cliffhanger for the final episode. And it was nice to watch an episode with company for a change.

Tomorrow I shall be on a train down to London to meet up with Leanne for a fun filled weekend in the capital. Whilst there the intention is to watch the final episode. It's taken me a good while but season one of Supernatural is nearly over!

Usually I post a picture from each episode in the blog at the end of each entry but as I've been on the hunt for one for this episode I think I stumbled across a massive spoiler for the next episode! Hopefully I didn't. I closed the page immediately. Hence no picture for this entry. Sorry..

Series 1, Episode 20: Dead Man's Blood

I'm very tired tonight as I've just come back from the gym where I did quite a lot of swimming. Well I say "swimming", it was probably more accurately described as "floundering", but I did my best!

In my shattered state I worry that I won't have much to say about this episode but I'll do my best. I want to get these next two episodes watched as soon as possible so that I'm free to watch the finale at the weekend.

Whilst investigating the death of a man who appears to have been mauled to death, Sam and Dean meet their dad again. It's quite funny how he just casually knocks on their car window and crawls into the back seat as if he's paying his boys a social visit. I hope the storyline about him constantly disappearing is resolved this season as I'm getting a bit tired of it now.

The man that was killed was a friend of their dads and the man who taught him loads of stuff about hunting. Their dad reveals that the creatures they are hunting are vampires. Dean is incredulous as he doesn't believe in such things. Really?? Is that where you've drawn the line? I wonder if he believes in unicorns and leprechauns.

Sam has some real father issues which result in a massive falling out between him and his dad when he thinks information is being kept from them. His dad is still pissed off that Sam left them to go to college but I don't really blame him to be honest because their dad does seem to be a controlling pain in the ass. It's also good to see Sam losing his temper because he's usually the more level headed of the brothers.

Meanwhile the vampires are doing "vampiry" things with a woman that they've caught. Good grief I hate vampires! I blame Twilight for that! Bloody awful! These ones have glowing eyes...Wow...

It is revealed that the vampires are holding on to a special gun which can kill anything, including the demon that killed their mother so they sneak into a large stable where they find the vampires all asleep in hammocks. Not quite as sinister as sleeping in coffins but more comfortable I imagine. I don't know as I've never been in a coffin....saying that I've never been in a hammock either. Sorry, I'm rambling,I'm  very tired!

I'm afraid I don't have much more to say. It was an okay episode. Not one of the best. The exciting thing is that their father (his name is John! I'm getting fed up of referring to him as "their father") has finally decided that they are stronger as a family and therefore they are going to go after the demon together. With only two episodes left of this season I'm wondering if the next story will be a two part finale.

Series 1, Episode 19: Provenance

Well I can't even begin to guess what this episode will be about as I've no idea what "provenance" means!

A couple have bought a painting depicting a creepy looking family. As they prepare for an "early night", we see a man in the painting start to move! Just like the paintings in Harry Potter. I feel like I've been relating a lot of things back to Harry Potter just lately. Shortly afterwards we see that the couple have been brutally murdered, presumably by the man in the painting. Nasty. I've had worse dates though.

Here's something else I should have added in to the Supernatural Drinking Game, Dean flirting with a lady, double drinks if he gets her number as he seems to have done here. Meanwhile Sam is as ever the only one doing proper work and is scouring the newspapers for potential cases. He comes across the story of the recently murdered couple.

Dean and Sam believe that it was a cursed object in the house that caused the deaths, although they do not yet know it was a painting. They head over to an art auction where all the items are being sold on. Dean wastes no time in scoffing as much of the free food as possible. A man after my own heart.

It's Sam's turn for a bit of flirting now when he meets Sarah at the art show. She is the daughter of the owner and so Sam takes her out on a date in order to find out some information about the exhibits. The difference between Sam and Dean is that Sam feels genuinely bad about using Sarah in this way. Truth be told I think he's kind of into her anyway and she seems very nice so it's a shame that she'll almost certainly find out what he's up to which will lead to a great upset. Either that or she'll be killed like every other woman who gets close to Sam!

They discover the item they need is a specific painting so they break into the show at night, steal it and burn it. Problem solved!

That was the shortest episode ever! Or not. As the painting burns we see that another version of it reforms in its frame.. Oh dear. Maybe they should have burnt the frame too!

Returning to the show the next day to say goodbye to Sarah, Sam notices the picture is back and I think the phrase is "he completely loses his shit!" Poor Sarah is left confused and stunned at his outburst at discovering the painting has somehow reformed itself.

Woah woah woah! Hold the front page! Literally actually. Whilst researching the family shown in the painting, a helpful librarian finds the front page of a newspaper from 1912. I had to pause the episode at this point as most of the front page was taken up with news of the sinking of the Titanic which is a particular interest of mine. I know what you're thinking, James such an interesting guy! Unfortunately this allowed me time to read the article about the murdered family in more detail and whoever made this newspaper page for this episode was a bit sloppy. It speaks of the murder of the family and then they must have run out of things to say so they printed the exact same text again afterwards! Sloppy work by the props department there. Did they really think they could get that past me?? Disgraceful.

I am kidding of course. I couldn't give a crap about such things.

Sarah is pretty damn fantastic actually. She's discovered what is going on and has joined Sam and Dean in trying to defeat it. Dean tells Sam that Sam should marry her and I agree. I like her and I'm enjoying how she is throwing herself right into the action along with them.

The man in the painting apparently murdered his whole family, also pictured. It was mentioned briefly that one of his children was adopted and I'm thinking that may be significant because it seems unusual to mention it if it wasn't going to lead to something. In the painting he is always looking towards one of the children's so I'm wondering if she is the adopted one. Not sure why that would lead him into killing his whole family though!

Well the adopted child was a big hint to the final reveal but not quite what I expected. It turns out it is the child who is doing the killing and not the man. The man has been looking at the girl as a hint that she is the one killing people. He could have made it a bit more obvious! Like pointing at her and holding up a sign saying "This bitch is crazy!"

To my great delight it is Dean who saves Sam and Sarah by finding the only remains left of the little girl and burning them. This was a great twist as it seems that all her remains were already destroyed before Sarah realised that the hair on the girls doll was the girls hair as was the tradition at the time.

I really enjoyed that one. Another good episode. It still doesn't feel like we are building up to a big finale yet but I have a few episodes to go so hopefully that will come soon. The episode ends with Sam running back to kiss Sarah. Aww. I hope she is in the next episode but I don't think she will be.

I'm going to have to give Dean the point for this one! It's 4:4!

Series 1, Episode 18: Something Wicked

I'm a little confused with this episode. Dean and Sam are having a conversation about their struggles to find their father. But they did find him a few episodes ago. So I don't understand. They found him and then split up because it wasn't safe for them to stay together for some reason. I'm watching the episodes in broadcast order but I'm wondering if this one was broadcast out of sequence for some reason. They did the same with the Star Trek Season One DVD and it was a fucking nightmare!

Some creature or witch is preying on children by sucking all the energy out of them and leaving them in a pneumonia-like state in hospital. Dean recognises the signs as it being the same creature that his dad once hunted when him and Sam were younger. We get to see a nice little flashback to Dean and Sam as children. Aww sweet.

Sam doesn't seem to have any memory of these events so I'm wondering if he has previously fallen victim to this creature himself. This is further hinted at when Dean seems to suggest his knowledge that the creature is only vulnerable whilst feeding on a child so I'm guessing that it attacked Sam in the past and Dean saved him. Let me say that again "Dean saved Sam". Don't let me down now Dean, please let that be true!

Dean and Sam believe that an old woman in the local hospital may be the witch because she has an inverted crucifix hanging on her wall. As they sneak up to her with guns poised (which seems a little extreme to me! She could be a vulnerable old woman!) she suddenly turns as she is alerted to their precence and I absolutely shat myself! She's not the witch. Her crucifix has just flipped over on the wall. What a balls up that could have been!

Disappointing. My theory about Dean saving Sam wasn't correct. In fact Dean screwed up by leaving Sam alone, against his fathers wishes, which nearly allowed the creature to kill Sam. It's getting really frustrating. I just want him to do something right!

Yay! Dean did it! He saved Sam when the creature started to attack him (it's a bit like a Dementor from Harry Potter) and Dean shot him straight through the head! Nice one! 4:3 to Sam.

Only four more episodes to go now. I hope it starts building up to the big finale. I'm wondering whether they will find the thing that killed their mum by the end of this season or whether that will be an on going plot. I hope they do find it and kill it as it would be nice to have something else going on in season two.

I'm also trying to develop a Supernatural drinking game. So far I've come up with the idea that you have to take a swig of a drink whenever the following things happen:

1) the word "supernatural" is mentioned which doesn't happen as often as you might think.
2) Dean and/or Sam gets tied up/locked up somewhere.
3) Any mention of their missing father.

And finally you have to finish your drink entirely if the last shot of the episode is Dean and Sam getting into their car and driving off into the distance which seems to happen at the end of every episode so far.

Series 1, Episode 17: Hell House

Hell House..... I wonder if this is going to be a sinister version of Fun House, the kids TV show presented by Pat Sharp. Probably not.

I'm on a deadline with this season now. I'm off to see Leanne in London on the 22nd August and as the Supernatural blog came about because she was kind enough to lend me the DVDs then I thought it would be a nice idea if we watched the season finale together.

So let's make a start of Hell House...

A group of young people decide to explore an old abandoned cabin in the woods. Idiots! Have they never seen The Evil Dead or countless other horror movies?! (including the movie "Cabin In The Woods") Walking down into the basement they are shocked to discover a young woman hanging there, presumably dead. She looks dead-ish. Although there's no signs of her rotting away so I'm guessing she must have died recently. After reporting the body to the police it mysteriously disappears.

Sam and Dean are beginning to investigate the case by interviewing the teens involved. Something doesn't quite stack up so far. I get the impression that this could be all some kind of weird prank. I can't put my finger on why that is. I think the kid that lured his friends there was just tricking them.

Haha! This is brilliant. Whilst investigating the house, Dean and Sam bump into another pair of paranormal investigators. These are more of the reality television type investigators. I was hoping something like this would happen in an episode!

Maybe it's a bluff but I'm really starting to think it's definitely a prank. As a subplot to the main story of the episode, Sam and Dean are playing daft pranks on each other so it seems that that could be a clue as to the main story also being a prank. Or maybe that's what they want me to believe!

Well someone has just died now and I saw them being hung so it can't be a prank after all. Now I feel like a right moron! It looked like a farmer that did it which sits well with the supposed history of the house that a farmer hanged his daughters and then himself when the family ran into tough times and he didn't want them to starve to death.

Oh no! Now I'm really confused. The first "death" WAS a prank which was completely staged but the recent death was real and there is a real ghost there as I've just seen it swinging an axe at Dean and Sam!

First topless scene of the series! It's Sam. Very nice! I didn't expect him to be that fit to be honest. Is my loyalty swaying from Dean?....I think I'd be safer with Sam to be honest.

I'm loving this episode, it's a really clever one. Interestingly the spirit has been brought about because of it's fame on the ghost hunters website. There was no actual spirit until people started to believe in it. As each small fact about the ghost changes on the website so the actual ghost changes too. Sam and Dean realise this and cleverly drop into conversation with the ghost hunters that the man died from a self inflicted gun shot wound and to this day his spirit is terrified of such guns and can be defeated by them. Presumably once this information is entered onto the website then Dean and Sam can shoot the spirit and kill it. Very clever boys! Well done! It would have been nice if they instead said that the spirit was actually friendly and loved playing with kittens, that might have worked too.

Unfortunately the website crashes and the information is never seen so their attack fails so Dean comes up with the idea of just burning the house down instead which seems an effective way of stopping people going in there.

Well I really enjoyed that one. It was quite different to the other episodes and a clever and new idea. Also I think I'm going to award Dean his first point of the series! It was fairly even between them both in this episode but as it was Dean who burnt down the house then I think he deserves to take the point on this one. I don't think I gave a point for the last episode so so far it's 4:1 to Sam.

I really liked the amateur ghost hunters. It would be nice to see them pop up again sometime.

Thinking about it, as I didn't score them for the first so many episodes maybe I should give Dean a bonus point for saving Sam when he was just a baby...It feels a bit like charity but what the heck, it's 4:2 to Sam.

Series 1, Episode 16: Shadow

In this episode people appear to be being killed by shadows. To be fair I've literally jumped at my own shadow in the past so I can see why that might be scary.

Dean is on full flirt mode this episode. I'm only a few minutes in and he's already been trying it on with a police officer and a bar maid. Sam tells him that he should be doing more thinking with his upstairs brain and I must say I agree! Dean has been letting the side down an awful lot just recently!

Ohhhhhhh dear. Look who has just turned up. Meg, the witch lady from episode 11. That can't be good. She's obviously got some kind of gripe with the brothers. I think she's great and I'm excited to see her again (not sexually).

Fortunately it doesn't take Sam long to realise there is something not quite right about Meg and he secretly follows her to her hideaway where he finds her messing about with all her "witchy" apparatus. He also discovers a sign which matches the one that was found at the recent shadow murder. Therefore it seems that Meg may be the one summoning the creature. I think the shadow may be her leader and she is trying to summon her or him into this world. The last murder victim was found with her heart missing so maybe the creature is stealing parts from its victims in order to build itself a body...that's my theory so far. That sounds a bit lame though so hopefully it's not that at all.

The brothers now believe that the thing that Meg is summoning is what killed their mother and they could now finally have their chance at revenge. During their preparation Sam says that when its all over he plans on going back to school. There then follows a genuinely sad little moment where Dean expresses his wishes that they stick together and carry on hunting with their father. That is clearly not what Sam wants and I feel really sorry for Dean that him and his brother may be splitting up.

I'll take Sam's place if you want Dean! I can't promise I'll be much help and I will wet myself pretty much every day but it might be fun. I will insist on a proper ghost fighting uniform though. It did no harm to the Ghostbusters!

Well Sam is the one to balls things up this time! It seems that the whole thing was a trap set by Meg to lure the boys there, capture them and then use them to lure their father there. Fortunately Meg is sent flying through a window before any real harm is done. It's Sam who saves the day (again!) but it was Sam that led them into the trap in the first place so he shouldn't congratulate himself too much!

Good news! They finally find their father when he comes to see them at the hotel they are stopping in.

Bad news! Meg is not dead after all and the shadow monsters are now viciously attacking Dean, Sam and their father. The attack came just as Sam and his dad are finally reconciling their difference and was a major shock. I really thought I was coming to the end of the episode and then BANG! The attack came out of nowhere!

Sam lights up a flare to scare off the shadows (again it's always Sam! It's actually getting irritating now!) and after fleeing the room they decide it's safer for their dad to leave them because he is always going to be more vulnerable with them around. I'm not sure I fully understand why that is but it seems to makes sense to them so I'm just going to go with it.

The brothers are both left with some fairly vicious slashes on their faces after the fight. I wonder if they'd leave a scar. I imagine they would in real life. I shall be on the look out for them in the next episode. Because if there's one thing this series prides itself on, it's realism!

Series 1, Episode 15: The Benders

A promising title! Either Dean and Sam are going to turn into raving homosexuals or Uri Geller will turn up with his spoons!

A young boy witnesses a man being attacked by an unseen creature which pulls hum underneath a parked car. A few hours later and it seems that something similar has happened to Sam when he goes missing. Is Dean finally going to solve a case on his own and win his first point?

It seems that Sam hasn't been kidnapped by a supernatural creature at all but just a couple of ordinary people. He is locked up with another man. When the other man is seemingly let loose it becomes clear that he has been freed just for the kidnappers to hunt him down and kill him in some kind of sick sport. The sick bastards!

Meanwhile Dean is on the trail with the help of a lady police officer. She's great, she's not taking any crap from Dean and she doesn't trust him. She leaves him handcuffed to her car whilst she walks off down a forest trail to see what is down there. As she approaches the house where I know Sam is being held captive then I'm thinking she may regret going there without support.

And sure enough she's just received a shovel to the face!

I'm still not sure where the bending comes into this....

Dean gets loose from his cuffs and makes his way to the house where he finds Sam and the police officer locked up in cages. As he explores the house looking for the keys necessary to release them he comes across the sick photographs of the hunters posing with their dead pray I.e all the people they have murdered. The timing of me watching this episode is pretty good as there has been a lot of stuff in the news lately about an America dentist who illegally killed a lion. Its generally been in the news recently about these kind of hunters posing with their kills in a similar manner to the murderers in this episode. I mean, why would you want to kill a lion? Or a giraffe? Sick people.

I don't believe this! Dean has been caught and tied up to a chair. Meanwhile Sam makes his own escape by overpowering one of the killers when he comes to release him from his cage. I really thought this was Dean's chance to shine but it looks like Sam is going to save the day once again!

Another great episode. I really liked how it turned out there was nothing supernatural about it at all. They were just a group of crazy people. Human beings - the greatest monsters of them all.

Another point for Sam on this one. 4:0. Come on Dean! It's getting embarrassing now. Even as they walk off together at the end of the episode Sam is taking the piss out of Dean for being caught by the young girl in the family. She was about 12! Ridiculous!

And I've only just realised that I've still no idea why this episode is called The Benders. I wonder if that was the family's name. Mr Bender...

Series 1, Episode 14: Nightmare

I like the sound of this one. I'm fascinated by dreams and how weird they can be sometimes. Also as a kid I was terrified by the Nightmare On Elm Street movies so this one might be quite a scary one for me.

I'm tired this evening as I'm recovering from completing a huge pub crawl of all the pubs in Nantwich. There's 26! We had a pint in the first and last pubs and then half pints in the other 24. That's a lot of drink and as such I was feeling rather rough this morning! But I'm proud that we completed it! Just another daft achievement in my life. One day I'll do something worthwhile.

So far the episode isn't turning out to be quite what I expected but it's still enjoyable. Sam is still having his nightmares that are then coming true. He dreams of a man being trapped inside his garage with his car running (seemingly trapped by some evil spirit). They race to the house but are not in time to save the man. It's a bit like in Harry Potter actually where Harry dreams that Mr Weasley is attacked by a snake. Except there's no snake this time....or wizards....In fact it's nothing like that at all.

In order to question the family over the mans death, Sam and Dean pretend to be priests. I'm wondering where they got their outfits from. Do they have a whole range of disguises in the boot of the car? Also it's really annoying me because I've seen the actress who plays the mans wife in something else and I can't think what! It's going to be on my mind throughout this whole episode now!

Was it Desperate Housewives? It might have been. Argh! This is driving me crazy. I want to look it up but I don't want to accidentally read something that will spoil this episode.

Sneaking upstairs, Dean performs a scan of the house by using this home made looking gizmo that shoots green lazer beams out of it. I want one!

It turns out the father was abusive to his son, Max. The uncle was also abusive and he has just had his head chopped off by a window frame. (Must have been a pretty sharp frame). Max has somehow developed telekinetic powers and is using them to get revenge on the people who have abused him all his life, his next target being his step mum. So I was wrong, it's nothing like Harry Potter at all. It's like Matilda!

As a side note it's still pissing me off that I can't remember what the mother has been in!

Wow! Major plot twist now. Max has just revealed that his real mum died in the exact same way that Sam and Dean's mum did! What can that mean? Sam already suspected that there must be a connection between them which is why he was having the dreams about Max's family.

Trapped in a closet (that's not a metaphor) Sam suddenly finds himself able to move the obstruction using the power of his mind just like Max and escapes in time to save Dean and Max's step mum.

I really really enjoyed this episode. It was a fairly straightforward story but it had some great twists and the overall story arc of the season is developing nicely.

She was in Sabrina the teenage witch! That's where I've seen her! I had to google it. She was also in Lost but I don't remember her in that. I shall sleep soundly tonight!

If I had to award a point to one of the two brothers then I think I'd have to give the point to Sam again. He is the one with the powers which led them to the case and helped them ultimately save a life. Also he yet again saved Dean's life at the end of the episode so it's 3:0 to Sam.

Series 1, Episode 13: Route 666

My plan to watch two episodes of Supernatural over the weekends has not worked out too great but in fairness I was actually out enjoying myself this weekend at Astonbury which was amazing! Good weather, good food, drink (obviously) and good friends made for a pretty damn fantastic Saturday and a pretty appalling Sunday morning but let's not dwell on the negatives.

But tonight I'm properly in the mood for some scares so I'm settling down to watch Supernatural. Some twat screwed me over yesterday and I know I'm safe to rant about it here as he will never read this....

Sorry about that. I just vented it all out then before I decided I was being ridiculous and I ended up deleting it. This blog is meant to be about Supernatural, not the ramblings of a crazy person! Plus it all came out as very much an "attention seeking" attempt which I absolutely hate. I just want to note down some events in my life so that if I ever come back to read these then I will have these notes as milestones as to what was going on at the time.

As another small aside before I start this, I've also just checked on how many views the blog is getting and it's rather depressing I'm afraid. Not many hits at all. Although I'm not sure I believe the reports because it's saying that some blog entries haven't been viewed at all and I know that's not true. Looking for a positive in all this, it does mean that I am free to say whatever I want without fear of upsetting anyone because no one is reading this! Haha! How liberating!

Let's start the episode...

It's a racist ghost truck! I think...Bit weird but not outside the realms of the other bizarre stuff in this show. A truck appears from thin air and runs a black man's car off the road. Other black people have also been killed recently in similar circumstances. The only thing I'm not sure about yet is if it is a racist ghost driving a ghost truck or if the truck itself is a ghost. The annoying thing is, due to my anger at the moment, I was kind of looking forward to seeing a few people getting savagely killed, but the fact that these seem to be racially motivated killings doesn't sit right with me so I can't even enjoy that! Bloody racists spoil things for everyone!

BREAK

Well this is a first for the blog. I got bored with the episode so gave up on it. It's now a day later and I'm going to complete it today. I'm in a better mood today so hopefully things should work out better.

Dean has met up with an old girlfriend, a girl that he cared enough about to spill all his secrets to. She dumped him at some point. That must have been what turned him gay.

They just had sex...There goes my good mood!

I'm drinking cider, good mood returns!

Some guy called Mayor has just been killed by the truck and yet Mayor was white. He did mention something earlier on about him being the complete opposite of a racist so it's possible that the ghost truck is also picking on people who are sympathetic towards black people. This show is fucking bonkers! Also I'm confused as to whether this guys name is Mayor or if he was Mayor of the town. They keep alternating between the two.

Right so it seems he was the Mayor but I'm too lazy to go back and make corrections so we'll have to stick with it. He bulldozed down an old house and then the killings started so I'm guessing that probably wasn't a good thing for him to do.

Ohhhh dear. The killer truck has turned up outside Dean's girlfriend's house. How awful it would be for her to be horribly squashed by it.

She is saved "fortunately" and Dean and Sam soon destroy the truck after Sam cleverly directs the truck to a site of an old church where it is swiftly consumed by the consecrated ground. I've got to say that Sam is becoming very much the brains of the whole operation here and I have to award this episode to him making it 2:0 to Sam. Maybe if Dean spent less time in bed with strange ladies then he might actually contribute something!

Overall this was a fairly decent episode. I didn't enjoy it all that much but I am fairly grumpy today. I did enjoy the fact that the series wasn't scared to address such issues as racism so that bodes well for the future.

I've now watched 13 episodes. I'm not a superstitious person but given the nature of the show, episode 13 seems like a milestone moment.
